CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS

AUTISM AND ADHD (18H)


Sonia Sumar teaches this comprehensive continuing education course in the theory and practice of Yoga techniques for babies and children with Autism or ADHD.
                           
Program Information:

 

Participants will start each day by deepening their own Yoga practice with a Meditation and Hatha Yoga Class led by Sonia Sumar or other certified yoga instructor assisting Sonia during the program.  After an introductory discussion on teaching Hatha Yoga to children with additional needs, 4 hands on training sessions with children with Autism and/or ADHD follow.  Each class ends with a group discussion and question and answer period about the techniques learned, the appropriate yoga routine and what stage the child is in.   

This three day program runs from 8am to 4pm the first 2 days and ends at 1:00pm on the third day.

We will be working with children (any age) who have ADHD or Autism. Please contact the program coordinator if you have a child or a client that would like to participate in our Program as a Demonstration. Sonia will be working with 4 children per day: two in the morning and two in the afternoon. We appreciate your help in bringing demos in as they are the highlights of our Programs.

CEREBRAL PALSY AND DOWN SYNDROME (18H)

Program Information:


Participants will start each day by deepening their own Yoga practice with a Meditation and Hatha Yoga Class led by Sonia Sumar or other Certified Yoga instructor assisting Sonia during the program. ASANA, PRANAYAMA AND MEDITATION (18H)


Sonia Sumar teaches this comprehensive continuing education course on the Asanas of Patanjali and advanced Pranayama techniques and meditation.  

Program Information:
 

Participants will start each day by deepening their own Yoga practice with a Meditation and Hatha Yoga Class led by Sonia Sumar or other certified yoga instructor assisting Sonia during the program.  After introductory discussions, participants will have an opportunity to practice the asanas and pranayama exercises.  Participants will learn how to apply what they have learned to teaching children with additional needs.

ARTHRITIS AND SCLERODERMA (18H)


Kathy Randolph teaches this 3 day course on how to teach Yoga to those with Scleroderma or Arthritis. 

Program Information:
 

Kathy has specialized in developing a yoga routine designed for people with Scleroderma or Arthritis. Her yoga routine consists of several postures that can help stretch and strengthen the spine, massage the abdominal organs and strengthen the core, including overall flexibility of the muscles in the body.

ASANAS - ADJUSTMENTS AND SEQUENCES - LEARNING TO GO BEYOND (18H)

 

Renata Sumar Gaertner  teaches this 2 or 3 day course to help you to go deeper in your practice and also help your students to understand how to perform yoga poses safely and progress in their practice. 


Program Information:


A Continuing Education program developed by Renata Sumar Gaertner to help you improve your understanding on how to safely adjust yourself and your student(s) in a yoga pose and how to build sequences to help you to connect deeper within. 

The program includes: 
 

Morning Meditation and Hatha Yoga Class. 
How to add variations to Surya Namaskar without losing its focus and flow. 
Anatomy of asanas - how to apply the knowledge when teaching yoga poses.
Adjusting yourself in a yoga pose and cultivating inner awareness.

How to teach them the knowledge of learning from within.

TEACHING ASANA AND ADJUSTMENTS: LEARNING HOW TO GUIDE AND ADJUST A YOGA POSE TO ANY BODY  (18H)

 

Renata Sumar Gaertner  teaches this 2 or 3 day course to help you to guide your students deeper in their  helping them to understand how to perform yoga poses safely and progress in their practice. 


Program Information:


A Continuing Education program developed by Renata Sumar Gaertner to help you learn to guide and adjust your students effectively into and out of any yoga asana.  

The program includes: 

The program includes Hatha Yoga Class with Pranayama and Meditation practice.  There will be discussion about different body types and conditions to be aware of when teaching. Students will learn how to modify and add variations of asanas for different students in a multi level class.  The importance of the hips and spine in performing yoga poses will be discussed.  Students will study and understand the differences between shortening muscles and body limitations and how to work with both.  We will discuss ethics when teaching a yoga class and when and how to touch and adjust students.  Participants will also learn how to correctly give verbal adjustment instructions to students for forward bending, backward bending, lateral and spinal twists, and inversions.    

This course is an approved for 18H of training towards the 300H RYT designation with Yoga Alliance.

Who should attend: This course is open to therapists, Yoga instructors and Yoga students with 3 years or more of Yoga practice/experience.


 THE GOLDEN KEYS OF YOGA FOR ALL ABILITIES - THE SONIA SUMAR METHOD

The course is a very intensive and dynamic 3 days of training which will include not only in-depth study of the different way one can apply the method to children with additional needs but also further deepening of the participant's own yoga practice.
The training will include 2hrs and 30min of yoga sadhana (practice) in the morning followed by lectures and discussions, further study of the Keys of Yoga for All Abilities and their application in life. Sonia will share with the group further techniques and tools that can be used and applied in the different cases. Every day will conclude with a deep relaxation or meditation session, so the participants can better absorb the newly learned skills and gained knowledge. 

YOGA FOR ADULTS WITH CEREBRAL PALSY (18H)

INTRODUCTION TO SANSKRIT (18H) 

An Introduction to Sanskrit : Brilliance and Intelligence of an Ancient Language - SriDevi Denisa teaches this comprehensive introductory course to Sanskrit, the ancient language of yoga.

Who should attend: This course is open to student who have completed the Yoga for All Abilities 95H Certification Program Part 1 and have keen interest in deepening their own practice and broadening their knowledge of yoga. It is important to understand the medical contraindications to certain aspects of yoga, so please do not try to copy our work without proper instruction.

The program includes

This course will help you develop an understanding of the origins and historical development of Classical Sanskrit, why it became the language of yoga, its basic grammatical structure and philosophy, its physiological impact on the body when pronounced correctly and health benefits.

This course is experiential and as such it will include daily asana practice, focused study and practice of correct Sanskrit pronunciation building from the Alphabet to extracts from key texts such as the Rgveda, the ŚrīmadBhagavadgītā and the Yogasūtra of Patañjali.

RAJA YOGA AND MEDITATION (18H) 

A Continuing Education program developed by Sonia Sumar .  This program is part of our 300H Teacher Training (leading you to your 500H certification with Yoga Alliance

Who should attend: This course is open to Yoga therapists, instructors and students, health care practitioners, and families of children with additional Needs who have completed our Yoga for All Abilities 95H Certification Program Part 1. The program includes

Daily Hatha Yoga practice with mantra, pranayama, meditation and (everyone’s favorite) yoganidra.  Extra sessions of prananyama and meditiation midday will explore different positions and techniques to establish your best practice.  Participants will study the 8 limbs of Yoga, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and how to apply their teachings to their own practice.  This course is accredited by Yoga Alliance and approved for credits toward your 300H RYT.

EARLY INTERVENTION - TEACHING YOGA FOR BABIES WITH ADDITIONAL NEEDS (18H)

A Continuing Education program developed by Sonia Sumar to help you to work with babies with additional needs  following the Sonia Sumar Method.

GET READY TO LEARN - YOGA IN THE CLASSROOM (18H)

A Continuing Education program developed by Anne Buckley Reen (OT, RYT). This dynamic 2.5 day program offers the school based practitioner a clinically researched Yoga curriculum utilizing developmentally graded yoga sequences which align with RTI and PBIS. TRAUMA, SENSORY PROCESSING AND WORKING WITH LIMITED LANGUAGE (18H)

A brand new Continuing Education program developed by our senior licensed practitioner, Cheryl Albright, in collaboration with Sonia Sumar and Renata Sumar Gaertner to discuss the research behind Yoga for All Abilities - The Sonia Sumar Method. 

Who should attend: This course is open to Yoga therapists, instructors and students, health care practitioners, and families of children with additional Needs. The program includes

The course is a very intensive and dynamic 3 days of training where we will explain how the method is integrated in the medical model, case studies, and research in regards to sensory processing, trauma, and limited verbal language. YOGA AND PREGNANCY (18H)

A Continuing Education program developed by Renata Sumar Gaertner to help you learn to work safely and effectively with pregnant students.  

Who should attend: This course is open to Yoga teachers, health care practitioners, PTs, and OTs who have completed our Yoga for All Abilities 95H Certification Program Part 1. The program includes

The program includes daily Hatha Yoga Class with Pranayama and Meditation practice.  The course will focus on creating and learning yoga sequences that will accommodate different phases of pregnancy.  Students will study Surya Namaskar, seated, standing and lying down asanas for each trimester.  We will discuss effective use of props and partners during prenatal yoga.  We will practice and discuss the best pranayama and relaxation techniques for each stage of pregnancy.  

 

This course is an approved for 18H of training towards the 300H RYT designation with Yoga Alliance.


ACCREDITATIONS (for each Continuing Education Program)

At the end of the course you will receive a contact hours recognition that is recognized by Yoga Alliance and can be added or used as part of your specialization training if you are doing a TTC yoga course and also as Continuing Education hours as all our teachers are YCEP.
