Study within a living method shaped by Sonia Sivakami Sumar's decades of teaching, practice, and service.
TRAINING OVERVIEW
A year of practice, study, and integration.
Our 200H Hatha Yoga Teacher Training - Sonia Sumar Method is a year-long training designed for students who wish to deepen their personal practice and/or become certified yoga teachers.
This program combines traditional Hatha Yoga practice, pranayama, meditation, mantra, yoga philosophy, anatomy, teaching methodology, sequencing, adaptations, and practicum in a supportive community.

This is not a weekend certification to rush through. It is a steady training process with live practice, study, teaching feedback, and time for integration.
Sonia Sumar Method distinction: Although this is a traditional 200H training, students also learn to adapt and accommodate postures for different bodies, including adults with disabilities. The emphasis is on body awareness first: learning to feel, observe, and understand where the pose should live for each person.
For practitioners
Students who want to deepen personal practice through Hatha Yoga, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, and steady study.
For future teachers
Students who feel called to teach and want live practice teaching, sequencing, feedback, and mentorship.
For caring professionals
Therapists, educators, parents, caregivers, OTs, PTs, and SLPs who want a deeper foundation in Yoga as a lifelong practice.
WHY THIS TRAINING IS UNIQUE
Rooted in lineage. Built through practice.
This is not a mass online certification, a pre-recorded course, or a rushed weekend credential. The training is live, relational, and built around practice, mentorship, teaching experience, and the Sonia Sumar Method lineage.

Questions students often ask
Is this training online or in person? Most of the training takes place live online through monthly weekends and evening labs. The August 19-22 intensive is hybrid, with deeper practice, applied teaching, anatomy, adjustments, and community time. Do I need to want to become a yoga teacher? No. Some students join to become certified teachers, and others join to deepen their personal practice, study Yoga more seriously, or bring Yoga into work they already do. Are Hatha Yoga classes required? Yes. Students complete two 1.5-hour live Hatha Yoga classes per month from January through December 2027. These classes support personal practice, integration, and teaching readiness. What happens if I miss a live session? Because this is a live training, attendance matters. If a student must miss part of the training, make-up work may be required, such as recordings, written reflections, practice teaching videos, or additional assignments, depending on what was missed. Will I practice teaching? Yes. Practice teaching is a central part of the training. Students practice cueing, sequencing, observation, adaptations, pranayama, meditation, and class construction with feedback. Is this a Yoga Alliance 200-hour training? This training is structured to meet Yoga Alliance RYS 200 educational standards. Students who complete all requirements receive a 200-hour teacher training certificate and may use it toward Yoga Alliance RYT 200 registration according to Yoga Alliance's current process and the school's active registration status at the time of graduation. Is a payment plan available? Yes. A payment plan option is available for students who prefer to spread tuition across the training year. Exact deposit, deadlines, and payment details will be confirmed before registration opens.
