TRAINING PATH
The certification path
The full 95H certification is completed in two parts, with practice and integration between them.
STEP 1
Part 1 / 48 hours
The foundation of the Sonia Sumar Method: philosophy, practice tools, safety, observation, relationship, and adapting yoga for different needs.
STEP 2
Practice requirement
After Part 1, students complete guided practice and begin applying the work with real students, families, or teaching situations.
STEP 3
Part 2 / 55 hours
A deeper training focused on sequencing, teaching practice, assessment, adaptations, case study work, and integration of the method.
CURRICULUM
What students learn
Part 1 includes
Foundations of Yoga for All Abilities, the Sonia Sumar Method, breathing, sound, movement, relaxation, attention, relationship, safety, contraindications, observation, and adapting tools for individual students.
Part 2 includes
More advanced sequencing, teaching practicum, case study work, deeper adaptations, therapeutic thinking, communication, classroom and family contexts, and how to build confidence as a practitioner.
How The Training Is Taught
Students learn through live teaching, practice, discussion, observation, demonstration, reflection, and direct application. The work is experiential rather than only theoretical.
WHO THE METHOD SUPPORTS
Who this work can support
The method can be adapted for many children, teens, and adults, including people with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, chromosomal conditions, rare syndromes, developmental delays, sensory processing differences, neurological differences, intellectual disabilities, learning differences, speech and language delays, motor planning challenges, trauma histories, complex medical histories, and early-intervention needs.

Yoga Alliance
The 95H training connects with Yoga Alliance children’s yoga and continuing education pathways where applicable.
IAYT Continuing Education
Eligible continuing education may be available for yoga therapists, where applicable.
AOTA
The 95H training includes AOTA-approved continuing education for eligible occupational therapy practitioners.
Professional responsibility
This training supports yoga teaching and therapeutic yoga education. It does not replace medical, therapeutic, or professional licensure.
