PROGRAM SCHEDULE
DAY 1 08:00 am - Meditation & Hatha Yoga Class.
10:00 am - Breakfast. 10:30 am - Introduction.
11:00 am - Demonstration class with student with Cerebral Palsy. 11:30 am - Understanding your student’s condition with no judgements. How to evaluate and support any kind of condition. Lecture and comments followed by questions and answer session.
12:30 pm - Group Discussion: The ideal Yoga routine to help the student physically, emotionally and to obtain a peaceful mind.
01:00 pm - Break for Lunch 02:00 pm - Teaching Mantras- Practicum by participants. How mantra can affect and improve breathing. 03:00 pm - Demonstration class with student with Cerebral Palsy.
03:45 pm - Questions and Answers. 04:00 pm - End of the Day DAY 2 08:00 am - Morning Sadhana as day 1.
10:00 am - Breakfast 10:30 am - Adapting Surya Namaskar to adults with severe conditions: seated or lying down Sun Salutations.
11:30 am – Demonstration class with student with Cerebral Palsy. 12:00 pm – Building up the right Hatha Yoga class for each student: The importance of having mind and body working together for the best results on all levels. Questions and answers.
01:00 pm - Break for Lunch 02:00 pm –The importance of having mind and body working together for the best results on all levels continued.
03:00 pm – Demonstration class with student with Cerebral Palsy.
03:30 pm – Questions and answers session. 04:00 pm - End of the Program.
Who should attend: This course is open to Yoga therapists, instructors and students, health care practitioners, and families of children with Special Needs who have completed our Yoga for the Special Child 95H Certification Program Part 1. It is important to understand the medical contraindications to certain asanas and breathing techniques, so please do not try to copy our work without proper instruction.
The program includes
Participants will start each day by deepening their own Yoga practice with a Meditation and Hatha Yoga Class led by Sonia Sumar or other Certified Yoga instructor assisting Sonia during the program. Three hands on training sessions with adults with Cerebral Palsy follow. Each class ends with a group discussion and question and answer period about the techniques learned and the appropriate yoga routine for each person.
