Part 2: Developing and leading therapeutic yoga sessions in Sonia Sumar’s Method for Teens and Young Adults
Itinerary and what you will learn
This course further expands on the techniques learned in Part 1 with particular emphasis on working with teens and young adults, but also refining your skills to work with kids from 0-12 years. The Part 2 curriculum is rich and engaging. It includes:
- Review and further study the four stages of Yoga for the Special Child.
- In-depth feedback and tips from Sonia Sumar on videos brought to the course by each student.
- Discuss the theory and practice of working with older students (13 and above).
- Study of the physiological and psychological benefits of therapeutic yoga for older children and young adults.
- Developing skills and learning tools to deal with challenges when working with teens and adolescents.
- Learning how to structure a group class.
Part 2 provides an incredible opportunity for feedback and guidance on specific case studies as each practitioner brings different cases to the group. During the training, you will also be developing your yoga practice further. Each day will begin with a 2-hour yoga practice led by Sonia Sumar. The course is experiential, and thus, it will involve pairing up with fellow students for hands-on training in adjustments.
Note: Participants must have had some experience teaching at least 2 hours of yoga class using The Sonia Sumar Method (i.e., four half-hour classes). Participants will bring at least one video of one of these half-hour sessions/classes to the course for feedback. (Note: video must be compatible with Windows Media Player or QuickTime). A video of any student of any age is acceptable, but a session with an older child is encouraged.
